Originally conceived as a "baby Duesenberg", the Cord entered production as the model "810" in 1936, followed by the supercharged "812" version in 1937. The Gordon Buehrig design created a sensation and is acclaimed as one of the top 10 automotive designs of all time.

Orders flooded in from the great and the good. Notable owners included cowboy actor Tom Mix, Amy Johnson, Amelia Earhart, Lord Derby and British actor George Raft, amongst others. Sadly, the production line was beset with problems and the Cord Corporation was in a precarious financial position. Production ended after a mere two years.

The car offered is a RHD example supplied to the UK through the London agents, RSM Automobiles. Very little is known of the early history until it was discovered by noted "car hunter" the late Cecil Bendall in the late 1960s.

By the 1970s, it had found its way to the Isle of Man where it underwent a restoration taking some 12 years to complete, and has been in private ownership ever since. Despite being an older restoration, the car still presents well and is in running order. It is exceptionally rare and it may be the only surviving example of a RHD Supercharged Phaeton anywhere.
